Ass. Prof. Dr. Nikola Gjorgjievski was born in 1984 in Skopje. He graduated primary and secondary school in Skopje with excellent success. In 2002, he was chosen as the best student of his generation at the DSMU secondary medical school “Dr. Panche Karagjozov”-Skopje.

At the Medical Faculty in Skopje at the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” enrolled in 2002, and graduated on 16 July 2008, with an average grade of 9.21 as the first graduate student of his generation. During his studies, he successfully completed a one-month training course at the Internal Medicine Department of the University Hospital in Olomouc, Czech Republic.

After completing his medical internship, he successfully passed the professional exam and in February 2009 he obtained a work license. He first worked as a family doctor and later got a job at the Macedonian Health Insurance Fund until March 2014.

Since March 2014, he has been employed at PHI UK for Nephrology, and 2016 he was selected as an assistant, later 2024 he has selected as an associated professor at the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of “St. Cyril and Methodius” Skopje.  In October 2019, he successfully passed the specialist exam and acquired the title of specialist in Nephrology.

He successfully defended the doctoral dissertation under the title “Application of Doppler ultrasound in the monitoring of the maturation of arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis” on 13.01.2021 at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje with the highest grade of 10.0.

Continuous medical education is achieved through participation at international and domestic scientific congresses. In the past period, he has been improving professionally in the field of vascular access for hemodialysis. He attended a one-month training course in November 2015 at the University Clinical Center of Ljubljana, and in May 2017 he successfully completed a one-month course entitled “Doppler Ultrasound Diagnostics of Blood Vessel Diseases” at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb, Republic of Croatia.

He introduces 4 new methods in the field of vascular access at the University Clinic for Nephrology in Skopje. He enriches his international career by participating in multicentric studies. He is a participant in an international study entitled “AIM.SIM project” coordinated by the Department of Biomedical Bioengineering at the “Mario Negri” Institute for Research Pharmacology, Bergamo, Italy.

He is also an active participant in the scientific research national project “Treatment of hyperphosphatemia with sevelamer carbonate in patients on hemodialysis: Association of FGF-23 with cardiovascular morbidity and effect of mineral bone disease” which is being carried out at PHI UK for Nephrology Skopje.

Furthermore, he is dedicated and involved in the treatment of the patients with rare disorders. In that direction, he is constantly present and actively participates in a large number of domestic and international congresses.

Since March 2020, he has been appointed as the national coordinator from Macedonia at the European registry of patients with renal replacement therapy of ERA-EDTA (European Renal Association-European Dialysis and Transplantation Association) as well as the coordinator for the registry for COVID-19 positive patients with renal replacement therapy of ERA-EDTA. Also, he is a member of the Doctor’s Chamber of RN Macedonia, International Vascular Access Society (VAS), Macedonia Society of Nephrology, Dialysis, and Artificial organs (MSNDA)

Ass. Prof. Dr. Nikola Gjorgjievski is the author and co-author of above 70 published scientific papers and presentations.
