Merita Rroji Molla, MD, PhD, Associate Professor, is a nephrologist at the University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa” in Tirana and Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Medicine, Tirana, Albania. She obtained her PhD in Internal Medicine with a focus on peritoneal dialysis and completed international fellowships at Ghent University (ISN–ERA–EDTA) and at the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Policlinico Sant’Orsola-Malpighi in Bologna, Italy, specializing in Clinical Nephrology.
With more than 20 years of experience in nephrology and dialysis, she has directed the Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Department at UHC “Mother Teresa” and developed expertise in chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression, glomerulonephritis, transplantation, and rare renal diseases. Her research portfolio includes leadership roles in European multicenter studies (iMODE-CKD, Anylam HUS, Valor CKD), laboratory investigations on uremic toxins, and clinical studies in dialysis technology, renal replacement therapies, CKD-MBD, and cardiovascular complications of CKD.
She has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals and presented her work at leading nephrology congresses. In addition, she serves as a reviewer for major journals, including Kidney International, Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, BMC Nephrology, and Frontiers in Nephrology.
