Ivona Baricevic-Jones completed her higher education (BSc, MSc and PhD) in biochemistry from the University of Belgrade (Faculty of Chemistry) in Serbia. She moved to the UK in 2009, and since then she has been involved in various roles that have involved post-doctoral research, managing laboratory operations, scientific project management. Three years ago she joined the Northern Care Alliance as the Donal O’Donoghue Renal Research Centre (DRRC) Manager.

She has more than 20 years of experience in laboratory-based scientific research (both in Serbia and England), currently with specific interest in translational studies that can improve diagnosis, prediction and the attenuation of renal disease progression. She has significant experience in the management of research activities within large EU grants comprising multiple partners across different continents. The DRRC is a highly active, innovative and productive research centre with over 20 staff directly involved in clinical-translational research and working as the DRRC manager allows her to marry her scientific and management skills as she is heavily involved in research strategy and its prioritisation, establishment and maintenance of collaborations with academia, commercial and other partners (including pharma companies).

Coordination of local research activities, grant applications and financial budget management is also under her remit. She ensures that the DRRC is both viable and visible as a leading centre for translational nephrology research in the UK and Europe.
