I was born in Athens, Greece. I received my MD degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and my PhD from the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. I completed my fellowship in Nephrology in Thessaloniki. I was trained in PD at the Toronto Western Hospital, Canada, under Dr D. Oreopoulos, in glomerular diseases at the Glomerular Center, Medical School, Columbia University, NY, USA under Dr G. Appel and I have completed a one-year sabbatical in the Clinic of Nephrology and Hypertension, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany under Prof. P. Mertens. I am Full Professor, Head of the 2nd Department of Nephrology, AHEPA Hospital, Medical School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. I have served as co-chair (representing ISN) of the World Kidney Day Steering Committee, and member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and the EUDIAL Board of the ERA. I am currently a member of the ERA Council. I have been named a Fellow of the ERA (FERA) and ISN (FISN). I have authored or co-authored over 500 full scientific papers.
